Job Purpose
As an Engineering Team Leader, you will play a key role in leading a team of field engineers, ensuring the efficient delivery of fault response and maintenance programmes across power service schemes. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will oversee the planning, execution, and performance of your team while ensuring high standards of safety, compliance, and efficiency.
Principle Accountabilities
- Lead and manage a team of field staff, typically at a 1:5 ratio, ensuring optimal performance and development.
- Plan and deliver inspection & maintenance programmes, ensuring cost-effective, safe, and high-quality execution.
- Oversee preparation of connections work, ensuring compliance with service, financial, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor real-time team performance to maintain expected service levels, efficiency, and work quality.
- Report daily on cost efficiency and field team performance.
- Ensure full compliance with Spikex safety policies and procedures.
- Engage with customers to meet expectations and enhance the overall customer experience.
- Maintain high employee engagement levels through effective leadership, training, and feedback.
- Provide technical guidance and support to field staff on both technical and non-technical matters.
- Conduct on-site monitoring and address any quality or safety concerns immediately.
- Ensure all staff and contractors adhere to safe working practices, taking action on any deviations.
- Undertake standby duties and assist in organisational changes or system emergencies as required.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Background in the power industry or electrical engineering.
- Experience working with HV/LV networks, including overhead, underground, and plant infrastructure.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing and motivating field teams.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- ONC or equivalent qualification in an engineering discipline.
Desirable
- HV authorisation and extensive experience in high-voltage operations.
- IOSH Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety (or willingness to obtain).
- Strong financial and cost management experience within an engineering environment.
